The encoding throughout the web site is set to UTF-8. This makes it possible to display West- and East-European characters as well as real "macron" characters (Ā, Ī, Ū, Ē, Ō, ā, ī, ū, ē, ō) which are being used in the Japanese rōmaji alphabet to indicate long vowels, and of course also Japanese characters.
